Falls Church City

The City of Falls Church is an independent city nestled between Fairfax and Arlington County. Falls Church’s history dates back to the 17th century with the establishment of a colonial settlement. It takes its name from The Falls Church, which was established in 1732. Prior to western settlement, the area was home to members of either the Anacostan or Doeg chiefdoms.  

Through most of the 19th century, Falls Church remained a rural farming community. Tobacco, wheat, corn and other produce was grown in abundance and sold at area markets. In 1948, Falls Church became an independent city.

Mary Ellen Henderson Middle School, opened in 2005, serves students in grades 5-7. The middle school offers a progressive, enriching, and differentiated curriculum that challenges students to pursue a wide variety of interests in an effort to help guide future academic and career goals. The City of Falls Church is ideally located within the Capital Beltway. There are two metro stops at East and West Falls Church, which run on the Orange Line. Broad Street bisects the community, linking Falls Church to Tyson’s Corner in the west and Arlington and Alexandria to the east. Residents also have easy access to I-66.
